DIY Plate Charger (DIY Decorative Charger Plate Crafts)
A stunning DIY Plate Charger is a fabulous way to dress up your Thanksgiving or Christmas table. Create beautifully decorated picture frames to use instead of charger plates. These DIY decorative charger plate crafts are so unique not only do they look gorgeous but your guests will love them. They make a great conversation piece.
I always seem to have extra picture frames around that I am not using. The glass may have broken and I didn’t want to throw it away or I changed my decor and the frames no longer matched my decor. I have a difficult time discarding something nice that I think can be turned into something amazing.
I had some old wooden frames that were just waiting to be repurposed and transformed into something beautiful and unusual. I painted and embellished them to use as plate chargers to dress up my table for a fancy dinner (seen here in my DIY Thanksgiving Ideas TV Segment at Let’s Talk Live DC).
All you need to make the picture frame charger is:
- Old Picture Frame Glass Removed (the size for a serving platter or plate to rest nicely on the edges of the frame)
- Yarn or Twine
- Craft Glue
- Textured Ribbon or Rope
- Gold Metallic Spray Paint
Step 1: Glue the textured rope or ribbon around the entire frame about 1/4 inch from the inside of the frame opening.
Step 2: Coil the twine around itself to make a circle and attach with glue on the corner of the frame.
Step 3: Draw a curvy line on the frame with glue and then attach the twine as shown above. Continue this process adding coiled circles to each corner and curvy lines to each side of the frame.
Step 4: Once the glue is dry. Spray paint the frame to give it a gilded look. If you still have the glass for the frame, you can use the newly transformed frame to display a photo taken from the event after it has served it’s purpose as a charger.
